Adire is a traditional Nigerian textile, especially associated with the Yoruba people of southwestern Nigeria, particularly Abeokuta in Ogun State. The word Adire comes from the Yoruba words "adi" (to tie) and "re" (to dye), meaning "tie and dye."
Modern Adire
Today, Adire is used for:
Dresses and shirts
Headwraps (gele)
Bags and accessories
Home décor such as cushions and curtains
Modern designers also experiment with multiple colors beyond the traditional indigo blue, making Adire popular both in Nigeria and internationally.
